Contre la gendarmerie planétaire – encore

NON AUX GUERRES SANS FIN NI SENS COMMUN !

Ce que nous fait la guerre, à nous qui vivons ici, loin des fronts :
D’abord, le carburant a augmenté comme jamais aux pompes, on est à deux euros le litre maintenant. Un plein, c’est un trou de cent euros dans le budget. Si vous vivez en ville, et pouvez vous servir du bus ou du tram pour vos déplacements, c’est sans importance. Si vous êtes loin des grandes villes, petit artisan, ou contraint de vous transporter pour travailler, faire des courses, c’est une nouvelle forme de confinement qui s’impose – on limite autant que l’on peut toute sortie, on évite de se déplacer. Ambiance de couvre-feu en plein jour.

Pour tous, dans les villes comme dans les campagnes, cette hausse des carburants se répercute sur toutes les marchandises transportées. Les prix ne cessent de grimper, de tous côtés. Dans le bâtiment, les matériaux ont pris 5% par mois depuis février, en moyenne. Les métaux, zinc, alu… davantage. Le PVC, lui, a pris 25%. Allez chez n’importe quel marchand de matériaux, ils vous renseigneront. On n’en voit pas la fin.

Plus en profondeur, l’état de guerre continu c’est ce que nous vivons depuis le début 2026, depuis les bombardements sur l’Iran et le Liban. Comme un couvercle sans fin qui recouvre tout l’horizon, lourd d’incertitudes et d’une sourde angoisse refoulée, qui revient par tous les canaux médiatiques, réseaux sociaux, radios, télés.

Nous sommes le 8 mai. On nous dit que c’est un jour de victoire sur le mal absolu de la seconde guerre mondiale, mais ni les allemands, ni les espagnols, ni les anglais, ni les belges ne le célèbrent. Et les media ne parlent que de guerre, de blocus, de conséquences. Les Américains, les Israéliens, toujours, contre l’Iran, le Liban, interminablement… En janvier, le Vénézuela. Depuis, menaces sur Cuba… On perd le fil à force. Les raisons ?

Basta Ya ! Assez de guerre !

Le point de non-retour est atteint. N’y a-t-il que le Pape Léon XIV pour clamer en place publique « “Assez de l’idolâtrie du moi et de l’argent ! Assez des démonstrations de force ! Assez de guerre ! La véritable force se manifeste en servant la vie.” ?
S’il n’y a que lui pour parler clair, alors autant nous faire papistes !
C’est le silence qui nous assourdit. Toujours vivre dans le déni, dans l’ignorance de la servitude volontaire ?

Que devient la joie de vivre, le goût de vivre, s’il n’est question que du tiroir-caisse, et des mêmes limites, des mêmes œillères ? A l’intérieur de petites boîtes, toutes pareilles entre elles… Enfumés que nous sommes de toutes parts, à ne plus savoir de quoi vraiment parler encore. Des performances du PSG Qatar  face au Bayern de Munich ?

Le Pape Léon XIV, lui, nous rappelle que « la mission de l’Eglise est de proclamer l’Evangile, de prêcher la paix – si quelqu’un veut me critiquer pour mon témoignage de l’Evangile, qu’il le fasse en vérité. »  

Atahualpa Yupanqui ? En quechua : Celui qui est venu de terres lointaines pour dire quelque chose.

Un si proche Orient, à nos portes la honte

Six voyages en 2024-2025 à Jérusalem, Naplouse cœur de la Palestine, Nir Oz aux portes de Gaza, grâce à celles et ceux qui lisent ces Lettres de Liaison, mais aucun en 2026 : avec l’extension de la guerre en Iran et au Liban, Israël est devenu un pays pariah, un pays piégé. Les compagnies aériennes ont supprimé des milliers de vols. Nul ne sait de quoi « demain » peut être fait. Sur le seuil d’Israël, plus de deux millions de personnes survivent sur des champs de ruines, dans des conditions qui font honte à l’humanité. Leurs cris nous parviennent, assourdis par le tintamarre des media dominants, d’une guerre qui chasse l’autre :

« Je dois dire que la guerre continue et chaque jour les ennemis de l’humanité tuent, assassinent, et nous affament. Très peu d’aide nous parvient, ce qui augmente le coût de tout, surtout des légumes, des aliments de base. Pour acheter du pain, il nous faut faire la queue pendant quatre heures le matin très tôt, dès l’aube. »

Quoi faire ?

Vivre dans la surdité volontaire n’est pas une option. Devenir sourd-muet, et aveugle, par choix, et que le dégoût l’emporte, par « facilité » ? Autant dire s’enfermer de soi-même dans une cage, choisir d’être paraplégique, conscience paralysée, absente – parmi les conséquences de la paraplégie : problèmes visuels, pertes de contrôle musculaire, surdité, déficit cognitif…

Nous avions fini l’année 2025 sur une note d’espoir, restés solidaires de ces familles coïncées dans des monceaux de décombres, que nous soutenons depuis 2024.

« Très cher ami. Des millions de mercis et d’appréciations pour ton aide et ton soutien. Tu nous encourages à sourire et à vivre, en vérité tu guéris nos plaies et tu allèges nos souffrances.
Nous avons quitté Deir Albalah et nous venons juste de retourner à Gaza, pour y vivre sur les gravats. Essayer de nous adapter à nos nouvelles circonstances. La guerre n’est pas finie encore. C’est une sorte de mort lente due aux déplacements forcés, aux tueries, et aux bombardements. »

Le risque, depuis cette année 2026, c’est que le dégoût nous prenne, comme jamais, de toutes ces histoires qui tournent autour du vieux rapport entre les juifs d’Israël et leurs voisins arabes. Un dégoût à la hauteur d’une répugnance insurmontable – un ami chirurgien parlait d’anaphylaxie, le concernant : une réaction allergique exacerbée, violente. Puisque le couple américano-israélien s’est engagé dans une dynamique de guerre perpétuelle.

Alors, nous retomberions dans une apathie générale comparable à ce qui s’est répandu en Europe entre 1939 et 1945. Ne plus lire la presse, ne plus rien écouter ou entendre, puisque les mass media portent bien leur nom, aux ordres des grands groupes industriels producteurs d’armements, ingénieurs en guerres permanentes pour l’écoulement des stocks. Ne plus lire la presse, les hebdos, les quotidiens, est en effet d’assez bonne politique. Comme se désintoxiquer d’une dépendance au tabac ou aux alcools.

Ne rien savoir. Ne rien vouloir connaître. Emigrer sur une île aux antipodes. Partir vivre en altitude, le plus haut possible. C’est une voie de secours, alternative ultime. Nous n’en sommes pas là. Tant que des témoins bénévoles font pour nous le long chemin qui va des zones de séisme à notre conscience assoupie.

Se reprendre. D’abord comprendre. Sapere aude, oser savoir.

Et si les media locaux ne nous informent plus, chercher l’information dans la langue universelle, l’anglaise, par d’autres canaux. Ils ne manquent pas. Si l’on veut avoir une idée à peu près équilibrée des problèmes du Proche-Orient, une demi-douzaine de possibilités s’offrent à nous. Les bulletins gratuits de United Nations News. Le Guardian britannique. Le New York Times. L’Orient Le Jour libanais. Haaretz israélien. Le Tehran Times iranien (qui a reparu en ligne)…

Chaque jour, à ce poste d’observation, nous scannons une quinzaine de media, en provenance d’une douzaine de pays (Royaume Uni, Etats-Unis, Russie, Arabie Saoudite, Chine, Iran, Israël, Egypte, Jordanie…). Action-Réaction : le site des Messageries en ligne est fréquenté quotidiennement, par près de 60% de visiteurs d’Asie (Chine, Singapour, Viet-Nam), plus de 20% d’Amérique du Nord, 6% de France, 2% d’Allemagne, du Pays-Bas, d’Irlande, de Suède, suivis par la Russie, l’Autriche. Nous sommes au monde…

Quel est le problème avec l’Iran ?

Comme il est impossible de se fier à une ou deux sources d’information au débit idéologique restreint, comment comprendre les raisons de cet ancien conflit qui implique l’Iran ? La moindre des choses serait de consulter les témoignages de reporters étrangers à l’Iran, qui ont fait le voyage. Multiplier les angles des témoignages.

Puisqu’il s’agit de la confrontation entre les juifs d’Israël et les musulmans de la République Islamique d’Iran, il est un fait que bien peu connaissent :

Dix mille juifs vivent en Iran. Soit quatre fois plus qu’au Maroc – que l’on croyait le pays islamique le plus favorable aux juifs. On y compte une trentaine de synagogues, des écoles religieuses juives, des restaurants et magasins kasher. Même un hôpital, l’Hôpital juif du Dr Sapir, où la majorité du personnel et des patients sont musulmans. Ils ont aussi leur journal.

Que l’on sache, ces écoles, magasins kasher, en Iran, n’ont jamais subi les attentats antisémites de l’école Ozar-Hatorah à Toulouse en 2012, du musée juif de Bruxelles en 2014, de l’Hyper Cacher à Paris en 2015. Pourquoi ces faits sont-ils occultés ?

La seule destruction, totale, de synagogue en Iran est survenue au centre de Téhéran. Rafi’-Nia, le 7 avril 2026. La photo ci-dessous a bien été prise à Téhéran, non à Gaza. Les rouleaux de la Torah se sont retrouvés réduits en morceaux, sous les décombres, comme les Corans dans les mosquées de Gaza. Destruction opérée depuis le ciel, par des chasseurs-bombardiers américains, pilotés par des Israéliens.

L’armée de l’air israélienne parle de « dommages colatéraux ». Les vingt mille enfants massacrés dans la Bande de Gaza, trente mille estropiés, en deux ans, nous ont-ils accoutumés à l’horreur, nous ont-ils déshumanisés à ce point ?

Pour la clarté, dans notre dernière Lettre de Liaison en français, il y eut ce rappel d’une prise de position publique de Claude Lanzmann contre la gendarmerie planétaire, en 2011, à propos de l’intervention armée franco-britannique, appuyée par les américains, qui a détruit la Libye. Que nous ayons besoin de gendarmes pour vivre en paix ne fait pas problème.

Ce qui fait problème, c’est le cas du gendarme tueur en série, du-pompier pyromane.

My love of America / Easter 2026

The view from the pool
The place is a physiotherapy pool in a remote town, on a Saturday morning before Easter. Somewhere in the depth of France. The wounded, the overweight, the suffering go there ; for relief and healing. The mood, generally, is silent and serene, restricted to small talk and descriptions of ailing. On this eve of Easter something is happening. A rare, rising sound of anger and disgust in the moist air. About « the Americans ».

« They think they’re the kings of the world, and they give hell to all ! » cries one, whereas others concur. A bomber was shot down in Iran, with a missing pilot. Giving the protesters a feeling of retribution, instant satisfaction. These people are not political. They come from all walks of life. Their common focus is to be self-centered, busy with their own pain and probability of progress.

The price of gasolene in service stations is on everybody’s mind. Fifty liters will now cost you a hundred euros ($115) if your car runs on petrol. If it does on diesel, you will lose twenty more bucks. People feel strangled, choked. Both sides of the Atlantic. « Americans struggle as gas prices surge » – although gas is twice less expensive there, at over $4 for a gallon, they still struggle, most of them. « Trump struck Iran, now farmers are paying the price » (New York Times, April 3, 2026)

This was when Artemis II was on its way to the other side of the moon, with three men aboard and a woman – three of them Americans. As of this writing, April 6, 9 pm Greenwich time, the astronauts have surpassed the record for the farthest distance traveled by human beings from Earth : 400,000 km, thus surpassing the previous record of Apollo 13 back in 1970. Humankind is supposed to stand in awe : the-farthest human beings have gone into space !

We look beautiful and amazing, like one thing, rushed to underground shelters, or confined to the ruins and rubble of Gaza, oh Captain ? When Israel, a tiny country of ten million, has become nothing less than a pariah state, more of a trap than a nation, where hundreds of thousands are rushed to shelters at all times of day and night any time the sirens shriek, where kids haven’t gone to school since March 1, and flights to and fro have been suspended sine die… When one in six million people have been forcibly displaced in Lebanon, many of their homes destroyed or doomed… When tens of millions in Iran expect electricity and water to be cut off by tomorrow morning, April 8 at dawn ?

MAGA – Make America Great Again !
So, yes, we guess, whereas the Artemis Orion spaceship is cruising around the moon, and back – is there a pilot in command on spaceship Earth ? From the standard Western point-of-view, it is supposed to be the POTUS (President of the United States), with his MAGA motto – or is it the Secretary General of the United Nations ? Is there any global authority aboard this drifting human ship of billions ? Do we have to fly up 250,000 miles to realize we’re all one ?

Up there / Down here. War after war after war. All the way from Cuba 1961 to Viet-Nam, and from Afghanistan to Iraq, from Syria to Gaza and Iran. Haven’t we learnt anything from so many failures and orchestrated devastations ? Take it back to Afghanistan. Operation Enduring Freedom. October 2001. End result ?

Remember this British prince flying an Apache helicopter over Afghanistan in 2012-2013, as a co-pilot and gunner, gunning down twenty-five men, by his own estimates, and frankly stating « The thumbstick I fired was remarkably similar to the thumbstick for the PlayStation game I’d just been playing. » ? The warnings he had received from various commanders, what was made of them ? « At times we felt the commanders were right, we were creating more Taliban. […] Afghanistan was a war of mistakes, a war of enormous collateral damage – thousands of innocents killed and maimed… » Spare, Prince Harry. From one war of mistakes to the next ?

This is not to dismiss Artemis II, or the MAGA pledge. If the POTUS felt the need to focus on making America great again in his 2024 election campaign, it is a stark reminder that America was great once, but lost it. How it lost it obviously goes back to the quagmire years of Viet-Nam, 1963-1975, the Gulf Wars and their lies, 1990-1991 / 2003-2011, and the even longer quagmire failure in Afghanistan, 2001-2021. Hence the presidential pledge, leading to the electoral victory in 2024 : « They said he will start a war, I’m not going to start a war, I’m going to stop wars ».

Remember the driving force behind this 2024 campaign : « uniting citizens of all backgrounds around a common core of common sense ». Time to reminisce. Step back and reminisce. Remember Ike’s stern warning about the Military-Industrial Complex, in his January 1961 State of the Union address, handling the baton to John F. Kennedy.

Take it back to 1961 then. Ike for Dwight Eisenhower, 34th President of the United States of America.

Ike also was a moniker (I Know Everything) for Alan Shepard, the first American ever to travel into space, in May 1961 – some three weeks after Yuri Gagarin had been the first human being in space,  to orbit the Earth, aboard Vostok 1. Al Shepard, with the Mercury Seven – Scott Carpenter the scubadiver, Gordon Cooper the pianist, John Glenn « the last American hero », Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Don Slayton : how these seven inspired awe and heartfelt love in the  Western part of the world ! All the more as Alan Shepard returned into space in early 1971, and became the oldest man to walk on the moon, at the ripe age of 47 (Apollo 14).

As for the first American to orbit the Earth, in February 1962, John Glenn, he also returned into space, with Discovery, in 1998, aged 77 – after being a senator, for a quarter of a century, from 1974 until 1999.

So, yes, take it back to Eisenhower,  who somehow kick-started the space programme, and the pioneers Glenn, Shepard, Cooper, Carpenter. From the days when America stood its ground, from Freedom 7 to Friendship 7 (Shepard’s and Glenn’s vessels).

And, if we do care to make America great again, and inspiring, lovable, remember the awful fate of simple people in Beirut, in South Lebanon, in Tel Aviv, in Dimona, in Gaza, in Haifa, in Tehran… Remember the wounded’s anger in that pool, in the middle of Nowhere, at what America may drift into.

Remember John Glenn’s address to the Congress, after his return on Earth, at the end of February 1962 : « As our knowledge of the universe in which we live increases, may God grant us the wisdom and guidance to use it wisely. »

And those of you who harbour doubts as to what God may grant or not grant, heed Ike’s advice, for what it is worth – We should take nothing for granted … Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry…:

« In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

[…] We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. »

So that our love of America may rise again, eventually.

It has been a full year since our last Newsletter in English (eight posted otherwise). Then, the war and devastation in Gaza was still ongoing. Until the ceasefire of October 2025. Since, what has changed for people there ? Over two million of them survive in rubble in half the space they used to enjoy prior to October 2023. Who cares about the people there, the schooling of children in ruins ?

Is rushing from one war to the next helping anyone, apart from the arms manufacturers ?

Contre la gendarmerie planétaire

On se souvient de Claude Lanzmann, né en 1925. Entré dans les maquis d’Auvergne à dix-huit ans, membre des FFI d’Auvergne en 1944, pour empêcher ou retarder la remontée de troupes allemandes vers la Normandie. Frère du parolier Jacques Lanzmann, ami de Michel Tournier, amant de Simone de Beauvoir, il lui succède à la direction des Temps Modernes à son décès en 1986. On garde de lui surtout son inscription au registre de la Mémoire du monde de l’UNESCO, pour sa longue enquête sur les conditions exactes du transport et de l’extermination des Juifs durant la Seconde Guerre Mondiale. Une enquête de sept ans, de 1974 à 1981, 350 heures filmées d’entretiens avec les acteurs historiques et les témoins, synthétisées en dix heures du film Shoah, sorti en 1985.

Ce que l’on sait, c’est son opposition radicale à ce qu’il a défini comme « la gendarmerie planétaire », en avril 2011, durant les bombardements français et « alliés », anglo-américains, sur la Libye. « J’ai toujours été hostile à ce type d’intervention de la gendarmerie planétaire ».

Dès 1991, il prenait position contre la guerre du Golfe. En 2003, il dénonçait la fabrication du mythe d’ « armes de destruction massive » en Irak, et s’opposait à cette nouvelle guerre de marque impériale.

« En 1991 et 2003, quand les missiles Tomahawk s’abattaient sur Bagdad, j’étais – et c’est l’absolue vérité – déjà viscéralement révulsé par ce spectacle diffusé en boucle sur les télévisions du monde entier. De même, j’ai très mal vécu le bombardement de Belgrade et ceux du Kosovo [1999]. »

Pour comprendre la nature de la présente guerre, car en dépit des regroupements qui se succèdent à peu d’intervalle, c’est toujours la même guerre, on doit d’abord se rendre compte qu’il est impossible qu’elle soit décisive. Aucun des trois super-Etats ne pourrait être définitivement conquis, même par les deux autres réunis.

[…] Les habitants de ces pays […] sont employés, comme une quantité donnée de charbon ou d’huile, à produire plus d’armes, à s’emparer de plus de territoires et à posséder une plus grande puissance de main-d’œuvre pour produire plus d’armes, […] et ainsi de suite indéfiniment.

L’objectif de toute guerre déclenchée, c’est toujours d’être en meilleure position pour livrer une autre guerre. […] Le but primordial de la guerre moderne […étant] de consommer entièrement les produits de la machine sans élever le niveau de vie. »

« Comme d’habitude, les groupes dirigeants des trois puissances […] savent aussi qu’il est nécessaire que la guerre continue indéfiniment et sans victoire. »

« Coupé de tout contact avec le monde extérieur et avec le passé, le citoyen d’Océanie est comme un homme des espaces interstellaires qui n’a aucun moyen de savoir dans quelle direction est le haut et où peut être le bas. Les dirigeants d’un tel Etat sont absolus, plus que n’ont pu l’être les Pharaons ou les Césars.

[…] La guerre, quoi qu’irréelle n’est pas dépourvue de sens. Elle dévore le surplus des produits de consommation, et elle aide à préserver l’atmosphère mentale spéciale dont a besoin une société complètement hiérarchisée.

Comme on va le voir, la guerre est une affaire désormais purement intérieure. 

[…] La guerre est menée par chaque groupe dirigeant contre ses propres sujets et son objectif n’est pas de faire ou d’empêcher des conquêtes de territoires, mais de maintenir intacte la structure de la société. »

Ces trois super-Etats… L’Océanie ? Mais voyons, les pays de l’OTAN, Traité de l’Atlantique Nord, et leurs associés…

L’Eurasie ? Ce serait la Russie, et ses alliés économiques, de l’Iran à l’Inde ?

Lo and behold, in March 2026 about eighty percent of our visitors are from Asia (China, Singapore…). 10% from North America. 5% from France, 2% from Germany. 1% from Sweden, Poland, the Netherlands. Interesting shift, compared to what it was in 2024 and 2025.

The historical hinge between the continents, Palestine-Israel, has been cruelly battered from the end of 2024 till the end of 2025. The whole gate frame is now burning, from Lebanon again to Iran. There are rising concerns about the prices of oil all over.

It already means crucial rising fuel prices and higher transportation fees for millions. They now are above. World economy is at grave risk, has warned the UN chief.

Sadly, this is all trivial, compared to the death of 165 schoolgirls and the maiming of dozens under bombing in a primary school in Southerneast Iran, on the last day of February 2026. Nobody outside their families will know or remember their names. They’ve been turned into fractions of abstract numbers.
